Subject

Census Records, Inistioge, Woodstock Estate, 1831

Description

Compiled by Thomas Innes and enumerated by Richard Power at a request by William Tighe of Woodstock Estate, Inistioge, The 1831 Census is regarded as the second census of Ireland.
With previous iterations of a pre-famine census having been lost in a fire in 1922 in the Public Record Office, the 1831 Census of Woodstock Estate remains steadfast in its accuracy and detailed information.
Some of this information collected at the time was detailed and included
-the name of each householder
-the number of families occupying
-the chief occupation of the family (or families)
-the number of males and females
-the number of males of 20 years old and upwards, and their occupations
-the number of servants of 20 years old and upwards
Through this information recorded, we can garner an insight into the social and economic structures of Inistioge and area in the pre-famine period.
A great resource for lovers of genealogy and proving a reliable guide for researchers intrigued in the demographic at the time of its recording.
