Description

Bessborough House, now Kildaton College was the victim of an arson attack on March 1st 1923. The Bessborough Estate had being used by anti-Treaty forces prior to this. It was set on fire in an unauthorised action by Free State forces on March 1st. It was later rebuilt in 1929, it was sold by the Earl of Bessborough in 1940 and became a Seminary, in 1971 it again changed hands, bought by the Department of Agriculture and became Kildalton College.
