A hunting journal by Dermot McCalmont falling under the headings; Date, Meet, Hounds, Horses, Weather, Foxes Killed and Remarks in which Dermot records the fox sightings, tracks and areas covered. A photo of Lady Rose McCalmont and her horse 'New Moon' can be seen on the second page of the journal. There are also a number of hunting photos included throughout the journal, including a number of photos of Isaac Bell Esq, Master of the Kilkenny Hunt. The McCalmont coat of arms can also be seen on the endsheet of the Journal.

Major Dermot McCalmont (1887–1968) was Master of the Kilkenny Hunt for almost 50 years. Major Dermot was President of the Kilkenny Agricultural Show Society based at St James’s Park in Kilkenny City. In 1913 he was also elected president of the Kilkenny Golf Club, a post he was to serve in for over a decade. In 1915 he established Ballylinch Stud with his first stallion The Tetrarch. Two other famous horses of his were Tetrarch’s son Tetratema and his son Mr Jinks, all noble names that resonate with racing enthusiasts everywhere. Major Dermot McCalmont, died on February 25th, 1968, in Rhodesia, aged 81 years.
